Here is a speed trap camera. Apparently it was rigged up as a joke in New Zealand, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is in real use somewhere:   
Various types of "lid locks" are available. Here is something that is supposed to deter baboons in Hermanus, South Africa:   It would help a lot if the users actually closed the lids, but in this case the lids seem too damaged to be closed correctly. The latch mechanism is positioned such that it is prone to being clogged with garbage, being directly in the discharge path. The mechanism part should rather be fitted to the lid. It seems as if the mechanisms above had handles/levers that protruded from the front face of the bin, but that the lifter comb broke them off?
