![]() The major factor for finding the correct position of the lifter relative to the compactor, is to avoid a collision between the bin and the compactor's moving parts. Occasional collisions with the freely swinging bin lid are normally allowed. In the diagram above, we have two identical lifters, both lifting the bin the same height off the ground. However the compactor on the right side moves much nearer to the back of the tailgate. For the right side compactor, an extension piece must be installed to prevent damage to the bins. The extension pieces are an extra overhang length behind the vehicle, an extra weight, and an extra expense. Sometimes the compactor's movement path can be improved by changing the stroke dimensions of the hydraulic cylinders that drive the compactor blade. |
